Using the Filter Pane

Using the Filter Pane

The Filter Pane is Power BI's standard data selection interface. It is found on every page of every report and can always be found on the right hand side of the report. The Filter Pane is the primary mode of selecting data. Even for reports that feature several slicers on their Setup page, using filters will still be required to refine your analysis by selecting a Category, Segment, Style Group, Size, Market, or any other exposed dimension in the data model.

Filter Pane Sections

  1. Filters on this visual - This is only visible after you have clicked on a visual on your page to select it. Then, you can filter that specific visual differently than others if needed.

  2. Filters on this page - In this instance, we may want to have all visuals on the page respond to a filter for Market.

  3. Filters on all pages - If you wanted every page in the application to be filtered, you would drag your filters into this part of the filter pane.

For more information on filters, see Introduction to TABS Portal & Report Navigation and TABS Advanced Power BI Authoring Concepts reports in your portal’s Training Module App.
